With around 700 meters to go of Giro d’Italia stage 18, the leading duo of Gianluca Brambilla and Moreno Moser (Cannondale) cruised on the streets of Pinerolo.

After the 18th stage of the Giro d'Italia today in Pinerolo, Steven Kruijswijk remains in the pink jersey. The LottoNL-Jumbo’s position was not in danger on the Pramartino, the only categorised climb of the day. Matteo Trentin (Ettix-Quick Step) won the stage ahead of the group of favourites at 13 minutes.

Matteo Trentin (Etixx-Quickstep) won the 18th stage of the Giro d'Italia with Moreno Moser (Cannondale) taking 2nd and Gianluca Brambilla (Etixx-Quickstep) rounding out the stage podium. Steven Kruijswijk (LottoNL-Jumbo) kept the pink leader’s jersey once again.

The 17th stage of the Giro d'Italia saw Roger Kluge (IAM Cycling) win after making an opportunists move with 500m to go. 2nd place went to Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek Segafredo) and Nikias Ardnt (Giant-Alpecin) was 3rd. The pink leader’s jersey remained on the shoulders of Steven Kruijswijk (LottoNL-Jumbo).

The 2016 Amgen Tour of California ended with a bunch sprint finish in the streets of Sacramento. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka’s Mark Cavendish had the fastest legs. He crossed the line ahead of Peter Sagan (Tinkoff) and Alexander Kristoff (Katusha). Julien Alaphilippe (Etixx-QuickStep) won the overall.

The opening week-end of the Giro d’Italia was owned by Marcel Kittel, who began his campaign with a top 5 in the Apeldoorn time trial, before going on to win both road stages which took place in the Netherlands.

Cycling South Africa has great pleasure in announcing that Daryl Impey and Louis Meintjes have been selected for Team South Africa to compete in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August. South Africa’s Olympic governing body, SASCOC (South African Sport Confederation and Olympic Committee) announced the first names of the initial squad of 24 athletes on Wednesday.

South African Para-cyclists Goldy Fuchs and Stuart McCreadie returned home from Belgium where they competed in round two of the UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup in Ostend at the weekend, with a total of one silver and two bronze medals between them.

Cycling South Africa’s Mountain Bike Commission has great pleasure in announcing that the following riders have been selected to represent South Africa at the 2016 UCI Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Championships at Nové Mēsto na Moravē, Czech Republic, from 29 June to 3 July.

For the majority of cyclists, racing competitively in wet, treacherous rainy conditions would be enough to raise the senses of fear and adrenalin. The experience and privilege today however of watching Para-cyclists from across the globe racing for gold and also for points to keep Rio Olympic dreams and hopes alive, was not only invigorating and challenging, but instilled immense respect and sheer admiration for these incredible athletes who will stop at nothing to achieve both personal and team honours.

Seventeen nations kicked off the opening round of the 2016 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup at Alexandra Park in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, on Saturday 7 May, with a race against the clock when they tackled the Time Trial in cold and wet conditions.

Although having now returned from the busyness of wheelchair racing abroad, the pace has by no means lessened for the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games’ gold medallist, Ernst van Dyk, who now heads to Pietermaritzburg for this weekend’s UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup at Alexandra Park from 7-8 May.
