The 2nd stage of the Tour de France lived up to its expectations of having the weather, and particularly the wind affecting the race. A small group of 20 odd riders sprinted it out for the win with Andre Greipel (Lotto-Soudal) taking the victory ahead of Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) and Fabian Cancellara (Trek Factory Racing).

Stage two of the Giro Rosa turned out to be a decisive day for the overall contenders. Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio showed good form when she made a select lead group and sprinted to third on the stage.

A solo breakaway in the closing kilometres saw Andrew Westaway snatch victory in the Bestmed Sondela MTB Classic, and with it the lead in the Bestmed National Cycling Series, near Bela-Bela in Limpopo on Sunday.

Following on from the ground breaking achievements of national cycling hero, Robbie Hunter who became the first South African rider to participate in the Tour de France in 2001, the 2015 edition of the Tour de France will see a good representation of South African riders.

The end of June will be a true celebration of the youth in cycling when two Youth Festivals will be hosted to cater for the northern and southern parts of the country. Kicking off the week is the Oudtshoorn Youth Festival from 29 June to 2 July, with the Badplaas Youth Festival running from 2-5 July 2015.

It was just over five months ago that Team MTN-Qhubeka powered by Samsung heard the news that they had received a wildcard invitation into the 102nd edition of Le Tour de France, which kicks off in Utrecht, The Netherlands, on Saturday 4 July 2015. It was a momentous occasion for South African and African cycling and a chance to etch their name in the history books by being the first African team to participate in Le Tour.

Debuting in 1980, the prestigious Jack Cheetham and Letsema Awards will mark it’s 34th successful instalment this year, initiated and facilitated by Murray and Roberts and presented together with South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC).  The call for nominations for both the Jack Cheetham and Letsema Awards are now open.
