Overcast and humid conditions greeted the Veterans and Masters on the first day of the 2012 Time Freight SA Vets, Masters, Schools & Tandems Road and Time Trial Championships, that took place in Durban today (Thursday).

South Africa’s Lynette Burger added a third continental title to her resume when she claimed the gold medal in the women’s road cycling race at the All Africa Games in Mozambique on Sunday.

Seven South African road cyclists have travelled to Mozambique as part of a 200-strong South African team representing eighteen sporting disciplines at the 2011 All Africa Games, taking place in Maputo.  The duration of the Games, which happen every four years, is from 3rd to 18th September.

Anriette Schoeman (Nashua Toyota) took the Powerade Mountain to Mountain Challenge over 106km in Tzaneen this weekend. The ladies started with the vets 50 plus. Team Nashua Toyota dominated the podium with Lynette Burger taking the 2^nd place and Leandri du Toit taking 3^rd.

The final day of the South African Track Champs saw the elite men’s keirin, women’s points race and junior men’s points race being the highlights of the day.

It is highly unlikely that we will see a better Madison race any time soon. The Bellville crowd was treated to an epic battle as the endurance riders went all out.

With the chilly weather in the Cape setting in the action at the Bellville velodrome is bound to heat things up. The best in their disciplines are trained and ready for the ultimate battle, to become National Track Champion.

As if on cue, light rain began to fall as former South African champion, Lynette Burger (Nashua Toyota) crossed the finish line first to break her 14-month victory drought at the Wilro 100 Lions Cycle Challenge at Tarlton northwest of Johannesburg on Sunday.

Cycle Lab Supercycling, the largest cycling club in South Africa, has taken the development of cycling to another level by creating an Under-21 women’s road cycling team.

Instead of easing into the new year with some traditional base training sessions, the Nashua Toyota professional women’s cycling team have been racing furiously and have already racked up a total of 11 victories in 2011!
