The 2016 3-day, 3-stage Jock Tour Presented by Rudy Project, covers a distance of 304KM and a daunting 7200 metres of vertical ascent. The existing one-day Jock, which is an official premier seeding event for the Cape Town Cycle Tour, keeps its name as the Bestmed Jock Classique while its 3-day big brother is known as the Bestmed Jock Tour.

The Bestmed Jock Tour Presented by Rudy Project, which takes place from 15-17 July, is not a challenge for the average rider. It constitutes the first event in South Africa which is mirrored on the Classic European Alpine road race stage races, such as the Haute Route. There is no tougher 3-day challenge on a road bike anywhere else on the African continent.

Stage 1: Friday 15 July

Start: 13h00 Individual Time Trial; Nelspruit to Kaapsehoop;
Distance: 26.93km; Total ascent: 1200m
The first stage is a 26.93km hill climb time trial from Nelspruit to Kaapsehoop. Although only 26.93km in length, the course rises by 1200 metres between Nelspruit and Kaapmuiden.

Stage 2: Saturday 16 July

Start: 07h30 Nelspruit to White River via the Kruger Airport Road/Sabie and back to Nelspruit;
Distance: 140km; Total ascent: 2900m
The second stage is the existing 140km Jock Classique route, which Jock Tour riders will have to complete in one go, without the luxury of the breakfast and lunch stops which the Classique riders have at White River and Sabie respectively.
This stage takes riders from Nelspruit out on the N4
towards Sabie,
before turning right onto the Brondal road onto White River. From White River riders take on the road to Sabie and then back onto Nelspruit. This stage offers 2900 metres of climbing. The notable climbs on this stage are Heidel Eggs, Spitskop and the Long Tom Pass.

Stage 3: Sunday 17 July

Start: 06h30 Nelspruit to Kaapmuiden via Boulders/Barberton and back to Nelspruit
Distance: 138km; Total ascent: 3100m
Stage 3 takes place over 136km on the traditional Jock Classique route, starting in Nelspruit, going out on the N4 towards Komatipoort before turning right into the Boulders reserve for the back-breaking Boulders ascent and onto Kaapmuiden. From Kaapmuiden the Tour takes on the undulating road to Barberton and then onto Nelspruit, with Hilltop constituting the final climb of the Tour before riders drop down into Nelspruit to finish back at the Mbombela Stadium.
The total rise on the final stage is 3100 metres

The organising crew is elated at welcoming on board Liberty as title sponsor for next month’s 3-stage Liberty Cape Winelands MTB Encounter.

The Liberty Cape Winelands Encounter takes place from 17-19 April 2015 and it represents the next significant chapter in mountain-bike stage events in South Africa.

The concept, presented by ASG Events and MTB Adventures, provides some of the best mountain-biking terrain in the world, combining the historic and picturesque towns, wineries and mountains of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl and Wellington with personalised service and 5-star daily meals – all linked with stunning MTB Trails.

Click here to view the route info.

With the extra budget now available to the organising committee, they have upped the entry intake from 100 to 200 riders.

The deadline for event kit orders has passed, and hence the organisers are making these extra entries available at R6 000 per team of two (instead of R8 000).

This will still include all daily 5-star meals at our fantastic venues, but exclude the Liberty Cape Winelands customised Ftech Bib Short and Jersey which all riders receive who have already entered, or those lucky enough to get an entry through Liberty.

Riders who enter the event will receive breakfast, lunch and dinner at these five star venues:

• On registration day (16 April) dinner will be served at Lanzerac Hotel

• On day 1 (17 April) breakfast will be served at Lanzerac while Le Franschhoek Hotel will cater for lunch and dinner.

• On day 2 (18 April) breakfast will be served at Le Franschhoek with lunch at the Doolhof Tasting Room and dinner at Val du Charon, near Wellington

• On day 3 (19 April) breakfast is served at Val du Charon and lunch is served at Doolhof Tasting Room.
