Stander Romps to Third at Nove Mesto

A small South African contingent were present at the RockyRoads UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano, which was held in Nove Mesto na Morave in Czech Republic at the weekend (12 & 13 May). This was the third round of the cross-country series.

Philip Buys from Team Contego-28E put in another strong performance before one of his biggest races in 2012 when he won the second race of the Momentum Health International XCO in Karkloof. Buys' biggesst focus for this part of the season is World Cup XCO in Pietermaritzburg on 17 March.

Victory in KZN for Team Contego's Buys

Team Contego's Philip Buys won the first race in the Momentum Health XCO Internationals this past weekend at Giba Gorge, KZN. Buys was joined on the winner's podium by Rourke Croeser and James Reid.

Strong start to the season for Philip Buys

Philip Buys from Team Contego/28E started his 2012 season with two strong performances this past weekend. On Saturday Philip finished second in a sprint finish to Burry Stander at the XCO race in Fountains, Pretoria. He followed that up with his first victory of the season in the WP XCO series opener held on the Slammer track at Willowbridge, Durbanville.

Buys signs with Team Contego/Giant


Team Contego/Giant is proud to announce the signing of Philip Buys for the 2012 season. Philip is one of the country's foremost mountain bikers. He has ridden for Team Garmin/Adidas for the past few seasons. "Garmin was good for me, but now I need a new team."

Philip Buys (Garmin adidas) and Mariske Strauss (Team Contego Giant) won the 2011 Die Burger MTB Challenge over 75km in Stellenbosch. More than 3600 mountain bikers pitched for the event over five distances - 75km, 60km, 42km, 30km and 15km. Racing conditions were perfect.

Life is not always easy for a professional cyclist.  Sometimes there are so many races, so many different goals but, oh, so little time. No rider can peak weekend after weekend, therefore they have no other option but to prioritize.
