On today’s stage Wagner comments: “Today was rideable. We were a bit concerned about the distance of 143km’s. It was a long one but fortunately on the flat areas the tandem could run and the terrain was much better than yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that.”
Completing the stage in a time of eight hours and thirty six minutes, Wagner is satisfied with their result. “We’re quite happy with our results today and we look forward to tomorrow. The end is getting close now. Our legs are gone but hopefully they’ll be back by tomorrow.”
Olivier adds that he felt a bit uneasy starting today’s stage. “I think after yesterday’s technical difficulties with five flat wheels, we were concerned as we weren’t sure what today was going to bring. Obviously with the long distance it’s more difficult but we managed to have a smooth ride despite the front chain coming off twice. We also managed to avoid any serious breakages. It was 143 km’s, which was long and hard but I’m really impressed with our fitness, it’s coming through now.”
A firm believer in hard work and preparation Olivier admits that all the hard training is starting to pay off. “It was day six and the longest stage but we pulled though with some serious climbing. We’re looking forward to the last two days, it’s not downhill in terms of descent or inclines but it’s downhill in terms of days we still have left.”
