The Academy was represented by Graeme Ockhuis, Ivan Venter, Lee Arthur Green, Nicol Carstens and Damian Davids. A threat for the riders would be Stefan De Bod (Aca Joe) who was in 2nd position overall after the first league last week.
The academy youngsters went into the race with a plan it was Damian Vaughan that attacked after about 4km into the race. It was up to De Bod and the other riders to chase him down. Lee Arthur Green of the academy is emerging as a great team player and he also launched an attack. The other academy riders played the role of "watch dogs". Eventually it was Ivan Venter that attacked on Black Hill. He got away but attacked hard again and finally built a comfortable lead.
On the last 4km climb, Ou Kaapse Weg, Venter had a good lead. De Bod started to chase but had Nicol Carstens and Graeme Ockhuis on his wheel. These 3 riders got away from the main bunch. Ockhuis dropped from this group. Venter crossed the finish line with a comfortable lead. Carstens sprinted to take 2nd position and De Bod (Aca Joe) finished 3rd. Bonthuys of Kinetic CC came in 4th and Ockhuis 5th.
The riders will be preparing themselves for the 3rd League Race next week and Sunday, the Bauckaert & Soenen 72km race which starts and finishes in Paarl.
