He out-sprinted second placed Nolan Hoffmann of Tasol Solar GT for a nail biting finish. Third place was defending champion Christoff van Heerden of Northcliff Cycles, who was disappointed not to bag his third win in this prestigious event. First lady home was Cherisse Taylor who, with wins in 2008, 2009 and 2011 has put her stamp firmly on this event. Arran Brown praised the traffic control and marshalling, saying “the rolling road closure, with superb bike marshalling, was as good as you get anywhere in the world. This allowed us the freedom to compete at a very high level”. All the main teams contested the event from the very beginning and the MTN Qhubeka, Bonitas, and Computer Smith and were all in the final mix in this main event. The race is the main contributor to the research fund to bring cures and treatments for retinal blindness to South Africa.
Arran Brown wins Dis-Chem Ride for Sight on the streets of Boksburg Featured
The 24th Ride for Sight took place on Sunday, 12th February 2012. Almost 5700 cyclists took to the roads of Boksburg to raise money in the fight against retinal blindness. The Elite and Under 23, 116km main event was won by Arran Brown of MTN Qhubeka in a scintillating time of 02:30.
