Andrew McLean signalled his return to top form after a two-month injury lay-off with a stunning overall victory in the 27km Time Trial at the Msunduzi Road Challenge, Africa's only leg of the new UCI World Cycling Tour on Saturday.

The Cycle Lab Vets 40+ team dominated proceedings during the first stage of the Spar Midvaal Vets and Ladies Tour. Going from the gun it was the trio of Werner Moolman, Bruce Diesel and Andrew McLean who swept up all before them including the Vets 30+ field eventually finishing the stage over 14 minutes ahead of the field.

The Competition Commission has sent notification that it has withdrawn its complaint against 28 retailers and wholesalers relating to alleged price-fixing in the South African bicycle industry.

Notification was sent in writing on Friday that the Competition Commission has withdrawn its “complaint referral dated 25 June 2010 in CT Case Number 32/CR/Jun10 against all respondents in this matter in terms of Rule 50 of the Rules for the conduct of proceedings in the Competition Tribunal”.

Andrew McLean, Director and founder of Cycle Lab, one of the retailers against which the complaint was made, confirmed on Friday that the complaint had been withdrawn.

White seeks new challenges after Pro cycling

Nic White’s victory in the 2010 Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge – his final race as   full-time pro – couldn’t have been scripted better by a best-selling novelist. That he won the inaugural edition of one of South Africa’s most iconic races back in 1997, just before turning professional, created an appropriate bookend to an illustrious pro racing career.

It was a blast from the past as the likes of Mark Beneke, Gary Beneke, Andrew McLean and Anton Duvenage did battle on the streets of Johannesburg, much like it had been done in the 80's and early 90's. The day belonged to veteran racer Mark Beneke seen here with his daughters after a resounding win in the Vets category.
