The ladies started the 99km race on their own which meant that team tactics would play a huge role in determining the outcome of the race.

There were attacks from the start with some ladies going down in the prosses. It was clear the MTN Qhubeka and Nashua Toyota would play the dominant rolls in trying to get control over the race situation.

The first dramatic scene played out when Ashleigh Moolman Pasio punctured 12 km into the race while the bunch was moving at a high pace. Leandri Du Toit and Anriette Schoeman fell back to pace Moolman Pasio back to the bunch. Cashandra Slingerland made her move 20km into the race and got away. She was followed by Marissa van der Merwe, An-Li Pretorius and Lynette Burger. They managed to open a time gap of 1min at 34km into the race. At the turning point on the N1 they were however faced with a strong head wind.

Moolman Pasio made her move 41km into the race at the off ramp trying to close the gap on the breakaway group. At this stage Lise Olivier of MTN Qhubeka and Cherise Taylor (USN) were left to do all the work. Olivier summoned the MTN Qhubeka team to the front to help in chasing the down the break. Moolman Pasio was caught 46km into the race and the break was chased down 50km into the race.71km into the race Schoeman (Nashua Toyota) attacked again and was chased down by Olivier who was immediately counter attacked by Du Toit from Nashua Toyota. Nashua Toyota  launched a serious attack 76km into the race when Joanna van de Winkel broke away  just before the 2km steep climb in the city. Again Olivier was forced to  close the gap. Van de Winkel managed to stay away till the last 10km of the race putting huge pressure on Cherise Taylor (USN) and Lise Olivier who had to close the gap.

In the last 500m Nashua Toyota had 5 riders in the business part of the bunch with Taylor and Isabel Moolman also on the left hand front part of the bunch. Robyn de Groot gave a huge lead out with Lise Olivier following and Moolman Pasio right on Olivier’s back wheel. Moolman Pasio just managed to outsprint Taylor to take 1st with Cherise Taylor 2nd and Isabel Moolman 3rd.
